Announcing 2016 CMHF Award Recipients

October 3, 2016

OUTSTANDING ACCOMPLISHMENT OF FUTURE HEALTH LEADERS RECOGNIZED BY THE CANADIAN MEDICAL HALL OF FAME

LONDON, ON – The Canadian Medical Hall of Fame (CMHF) partners with donors, MD Financial Management and Canada’s 17 medical schools to recognize young leaders who exemplify qualities of CMHF laureates: perseverance, collaboration and an entrepreneurial spirit.

Students completing their second year of medical school, who demonstrate leadership through community involvement, superior interpersonal and communication skills, academic excellence and an established interest in advancing knowledge, were invited to apply.

“We set out to establish a medical student award of excellence that would hold the kind of recognition that membership in the CMHF does for our 119 laureates,” said CMHF Board Chair Dr. Bryce Taylor. “The demonstrated knowledge, skill and extraordinary commitment of our Award recipients are truly outstanding, and these 17 future leaders are genuinely deserving of this prestigious honour.”

Applicants submitted a 1,000 word essay describing why they should be considered for the Award and the qualities and impact of the CMHF laureate who inspires them most. Canada’s faculties of medicine/health sciences facilitated the review of applicants and each recommended one award recipient.

“Inspiring and investing in Canada’s future health leaders fits well with our mandate to honour excellence, preserve history and connect generations,” said Lissa Foster, CMHF Executive Director. “We are grateful to our donors and MD Financial Management for their commitment to Canada’s future health leaders.”

“MD is proud to once again support the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame Awards, and would like to congratulate all of the winners selected for 2016,” said Allison Seymour, MD’s Executive Vice President of Member and Community Engagement. “MD understands the financial challenges students can face as they progress through medical school, which is why we support an award that assists students financially, while also recognizing their leadership achievements. The winners of last year’s inaugural awards were a testament to the level of achievement amongst Canadian medical students, and we are committed to doing our part in supporting these students on their journey to becoming Canada’s future health leaders.”

Canadian Medical Hall of Fame Award recipients receive a significant cash award and a travel subsidy to attend The 2017 Canadian Medical Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony in May 2017 in Québec. They will have the opportunity to meet CMHF Laureates and interact with health leaders from across the country.
